This new product is specifically designed to complement the data lifecycle management capabilities available to organizations as their data warehouse solutions grow in size. Users can now move infrequently used data into a nearline repository, where it is stored in a highly compressed format while remaining easily accessible. As a result, storage costs are reduced without compromising users´ ability to access granular historical data.
According to the Winter Corp., the number of installations of SAP NetWeaver BI worldwide increased from 7,000 to 10,000 between 2003 and 2005, and this growth shows no signs of slowing. Because the SAP NetWeaver BI-based environment is the analytical foundation of an SAP ® solution-based business, the ability to seamlessly integrate huge amounts of detail data into SAP NetWeaver BI to support rapid, comprehensive analysis, regardless of database size and sophistication, is of increasing importance to customers in all industries. For this reason, SAP has introduced support for a nearline architecture, which SAND/DNA exploits to the fullest.
