Pointsec Mobile Technologies, the global leader and the provider of the de facto standard for enterprise security software for laptop and desktop PCs, PDAs and smartphones, today announced the formation of Pointsec Wireless Solutions, a self-sustained business unit within Pointsec Mobile Technologies that will be focused on bringing data encryption to wireless devices in the enterprise.
Recognizing the growing enterprise acceptance of smartphone technology and the preference for integrated solutions in the enterprise wireless market, Pointsec Wireless Solutions will be focused on strengthening the channel for Pointsec’s data encryption software for wireless devices with wireless carriers and handset manufacturers.
While the need for encryption to protect stored data is the same for all endpoint computing equipment, the unique management requirements for enterprise wireless deployments demand an integrated approach best achieved through a single solution provider. Pointsec Wireless Solutions will meet this customer need by strengthening and building the channel for Pointsec’s multi-platform security solutions with wireless carriers and handset manufacturers. In addition to managing the channel, the business unit will leverage its specialized knowledge of the wireless industry to direct future product development for Pointsec’s wireless solutions so that its offerings best serve the security needs of its wireless partners and their customers.
“Pointsec has been an innovator in developing data encryption solutions for wireless devices, currently supporting more platforms and devices than anyone else in the market. With enterprise acceptance of smartphone technology growing with the rise of business-friendly applications such as push e-mail, we feel that now is the perfect time to increase our focus on this growing market,” said Peter Larsson, CEO. “The formation of Pointsec Wireless Solutions ensures that we are dedicating the resources and providing the specialized expertise required for a successful channel program in the wireless market and signifies Pointsec’s commitment to serving the security needs of enterprise wireless users.”
“i-mate is seeing a marked increase in demand for mobility based solutions from our enterprise customers especially with the recent deployment of Windows Mobile® Direct Push email,” reveals Michael Cavey, General Manager of Content & Services for i-mate. “As a long-time partner, Pointsec has already proven its ability to provide security solutions that meet the needs of the wireless market. We are pleased to see the company increase its focus on bringing its encryption solutions to Windows Mobile® customers and look forward to our continued successful partnership.”
Pointsec’s system-wide encryption and access control for wireless devices ensure that data remains confidential even if a device is lost or stolen. Its exclusive “on-the-fly” encryption method ensures that encryption is performed according to an organization’s security policies without requiring action on the part of end users and results in virtually no performance difference for the device. Pointsec supports all major wireless platforms including Symbian, Microsoft Pocket PC, Windows Mobile and Palm.
Thomas Bill, CEO of Pointsec’s parent company, Protect Data, will serve as interim president of Pointsec Wireless Solutions. More information can be found at www.pointsecwirelesssolutions.com.
