Plasmon (LSE: PLM), market leader in professional data storage solutions, today announced plans to demonstrate its latest archival and RAID storage products at SNW Europe being held in Frankfurt on the 4th to 6th September 2006. New products on show will include the UDO Archive Appliance and Raidtec FX4000 Fibre Channel RAID solution.
Plasmon´s UDO Archive Appliance is a hybrid archival storage solution that combines the ease-of-use and performance of Network Attached RAID with the longevity and authenticity of UDO (Ultra Density Optical) in a fully integrated solution. First launched at CeBIT earlier this year, the UDO Archive Appliance has been installed at more than 200 customers worldwide as part of their archive and disaster recovery strategies. The UDO Archive Appliance is simple to deploy and provides faster access performance than tape, lower TCO (Total Cost of Ownership) than disk and more secure record authenticity than both disk and tape.
The FX4000 is Plasmon´s fastest fibre channel RAID product. With a 4Gb fibre channel interface and dual active-active controllers, the FX4000 delivers an impressive 1,500 MB/sec transfer rate (four port read). The expandable FX4000 architecture supports both SAS and SATA disk drives with up to four 12 bay enclosures in a single configuration. The FX4000 was designed for the growing midrange SAN (Storage Area Network) market that requires high performance primary storage in a flexible and cost-effective package.
In addition to being displayed in Plasmon´s stand at SNW 2006, the UDO Archive Appliance and FX4000 will also be on show in the SNW Solution Centre together with the full range of Raidtec NAS and SCSI RAID products. In the Solution Centre, Plasmon solutions will be running in combination with hardware and software products from other vendors, demonstrating their functionality and interoperability.
Plasmon has also been asked to present at the conference during the Vendor Tutorials on Wednesday, 6th September at 3.55pm EST. In a session entitled “Optical Storage Market and Technology Update”, Plasmon will provide an overview on the status of the optical storage industry and will use customer examples to show how optical technology is used as part of a larger tiered storage architecture. The session will also take a look into the future by examining new optical technologies including Blu-ray, HD-DVD, holographic, Super Resolution and others.
“Plasmon has participated in SNW Europe for several years and it has always been a good venue to present our archival storage and RAID solutions,” explains Steve Tongish, marketing director for EMEA at Plasmon. іThis year will be our busiest to date. Not only are we presenting new products in our stand, but we will be demonstrating the UDO Archive Appliance and FX4000 in a multi-vendor network at the SNW Solution Centre. This live environment will allow us to highlight the unique capabilities of our products and to show them working together with those from other vendors. I am also pleased to be presenting at SNW. My session will provide an opportunity for delegates to learn more about optical storage, why it is so popular for data archiving, how it is being deployed, and discuss future optical technologies.”
