Plasmon launches new scalable NAS and 4Gbit Fibre Channel RAID storage solutions at CeBIT

By | March 7, 2006

Plasmon (LSE: PLM), a market leader in professional data storage solutions, today announced plans to demonstrate two new RAID storage products as part of its Raidtec Solutions product line at CeBIT in Hanover, Germany from 9th 15th March 2006. The new SNAZ S12-400 NAS filer provides increased capacity and advanced management features while the FX4000 RAID system delivers 4Gbit Fibre Channel performance with flexible SAS and SATA II drive configurations.

The SNAZ S12-400 is the next generation of Plasmon№s successful SNAZ family of NAS filers. This extremely flexible storage platform not only addresses typical file serving requirements, but can also operate as a backup server or in the role of a virtual tape library. Using SATA II disk drives, the S12 provides up to 4TB of usable capacity in a single 2U enclosure and an expansion capacity of 12TB with multiple enclosures. Using an all-new version of the Linux based SNAZ operating system (SNAZ OS v4) and a high performance Pentium 4 processor, the SNAZ S12-400 also incorporates a range of advanced data protection and management features including SnapShot, replication and integrated backup.

The SNAZ S12-400 is delivered as standard with a software licence for the popular BakBone NetVault backup application that supports a 12 slot tape library, which can be expanded to larger libraries as storage requirements grow. The fully integrated NetVault application provides SNAZ customers with an out-of-the-box backup strategy without the need to purchase and install additional software.

CeBIT is also the venue for the announcement of the new FX4000 product family. Available for OEM integration testing in late spring, the FX4000 is Plasmon№s fastest Fibre Channel RAID product. With a 4Gb fibre channel interface and dual active-active controllers, the FX4000 delivers an impressive 1,500 MB/sec transfer rate (four port read). The expandable FX4000 architecture supports both SAS and SATA disk drives in multiple enclosure configurations.

CeBIT is an ideal event for us to launch our new NAS and Fibre Channel storage systems to the European market,І commented Paul Devine, EMEA sales director for Raidtec Solutions at Plasmon. іThe FX4000 is our highest performing Fibre Channel product targeted at the midrange SAN market. The SNAZ S12-400 is a cost-effective NAS solution and the addition of the integrated BakBone backup software makes it a very compelling package for entry-level and mid-range file serving applications. These two new products are a great addition to the Raidtec Solutions product line of NAS, SCSI and Fibre Channel solutions. It provides our channel partners with a very flexible portfolio of storage technologies and system architectures.
