London, 17th January 2006 – Midentity Limited, Europe´s leading provider of personal digital identity services, today announced the successful completion of the latest round of private equity funding through which it has secured one million pounds (US$ 1.7M) of funding.
The investment enables Midentity to open its doors to business partners in the ISP, telecoms and directory enquiry (DQ) industries seeking to provide an enhanced set of desktop communication services to its customers.
Simon Grice, CEO of Midentity, today stated that, “When Midentity was originally set up, we attracted investors to a vision of the future. In completing this latest round of funding, we have shown that the vision has been turned into the ability to deliver products that meet genuine consumer needs.”
Midentity´s core solution set is Midentity Contacts(tm) which integrates a PC user´s contact management software (such as the Microsoft® Outlook address book) with the PC telephony services offered by Midentity´s business partners. The resulting service significantly improves and simplifies how a user manages and accesses their contacts and also provides automatic back-up and access to an online copy of the PC address book. Featured applications based around this service include the ability to “ClickDial” telephone numbers on the web and send texts from the PC desktop to mobile phones.
The investment in Midentity is yet another sign of the growing interest and confidence in the personal digital identity market. The development of this sector stems from growing consumer awareness of: the value of personal data in terms of business and social networking; the time spent managing data and keeping personal data up to date; and the increasing threats from unscrupulous advertisers and malicious fraudsters.
According to Chris Akers, founder of the Sports Internet Group, who is a new investor and Director of Midentity, “Along with personal publishing, personal identity and information management are among the most rapidly expanding and exciting technology growth sectors. I am very excited about Midentity´s potential and am looking forward to working with the team to realise it.”
The funding came from a variety of wealthy private investors including some of the original investors such as Esther Dyson, the US technology commentator.
Midentity provides a set of solutions and services incorporating a range of contact management, communication, information and search capabilities.
