ISS and BitDefender to Expand Desktop Protection

Internet Security Systems has announced an alliance with BitDefender to integrate new antivirus and anti-spyware features into the ISS Proventia Desktop Endpoint Security product. The new features will complement the patented, behavioural-based ISS Virus Prevention System (VPS), already a key component of the company’s desktop protection offering.

“Our unique VPS technology provides unprecedented protection against unknown zero-day malcode by recognising malicious behaviour and blocking it accordingly,” said Greg Adams, Vice President, Product Development at Internet Security Systems. “While behavioural-based technologies such as VPS are extremely powerful for stopping unknown threats, ISS recognises that organisations also use antivirus and anti-spyware solutions for scanning and removing known malware. By integrating BitDefender’s antivirus and anti-spyware capabilities into our desktop product, we are offering our customers a comprehensive solution for handling both known exploits and unidentified malware.”

Virus writers, scam artists and crooked online marketers are becoming increasingly adept at getting around some of the mainstream security software applications offered in the market,” commented Eric Lewis, BitDefender’s Managing Director, North America. “BitDefender’s proven antivirus and anti-spyware solutions offer ISS customers new layers of security that the more established brands simply can’t match.”

ISS Proventia Desktop with integrated antivirus and anti-spyware features will be available early 2007. Antivirus and anti-spyware content updates will be made available via annual subscription.
