Ecora, the leader in providing change and configuration management software solutions for IT control, compliance, and security, today announced the immediate availability of Patch Manager v5. Of its many robust, new features, Patch Manager´s custom patching capability is particularly important. It allows IT staff to quickly add third-party and homegrown application patches and manages them throughout their environment from a single location.

“While Microsoft´s patch problems get all the attention, it´s easy to forget that it´s not the only vendor releasing patches to address critical security vulnerabilities,” said Alex Bakman, founder and CEO of Ecora. “To help IT staffs better address their overall patch needs, we´re providing a simple way to deploy third-party patches complicated SDKs and scripts.”

Patch Manager´s custom patching feature broadens the support for patches beyond Microsoft applications. Through a simple graphical user interface, users can quickly add third party vendor application patches, such as Adobe and XML, as well as homegrown applications. The advantage for IT organizations is broad patching capability without the need for additional software development kits and script writing, saving time, money and resources.

Additional new features include: Wake on LAN – Increase your scanning success rate by waking up systems that are turned off to be analyzed. Decrease your response time to rapidly approaching exploits; Rapid Scan – In addition to Patch Manager´s comprehensive Sure-Scan technology, Ecora now offers users the ability to check for missing and installed patches more quickly by analyzing file versions. Sure-Scan looks at both file versions and checksums; Selective Scan – Choose specific critical patches to scan and deploy, saving valuable time in quickly eliminating high-risk vulnerabilities; HTTP Repository – Patch through firewalls and DMZ environments by using the agent to download patches over an allowed port on the web server (IIS repository); Import/Export Policies – Import and export corporate patch policies with Patch Manager v5. Enforce corporate patch policies across the enterprise.
