Check Point Software Technologies Ltd. (Nasdaq: CHKP), the worldwide leader in securing the Internet, showcases the VPN-1 Edge X industrial model, the UK´s first unified threat management appliance developed specifically to protect UK factory floors from cyber attack.

Manufacturing companies are increasingly controlling machines on production floors via Ethernet connections using the standards similar to traditional data networks. This exposes the network to the threat of external attack, malware or security configuration errors that could lead to downtime, equipment damage or even personnel injury. The VPN-1 Edge X industrial model enables companies to keep valuable assets protected without disrupting communications.

Nick Lowe, Regional Director for UK, Ireland and South Africa at Check Point explains: “Production floor equipment must be linked to the network and accessible at all times, even in the face of network attacks. The VPN-1 Edge X industrial model enables companies to control their production floor equipment, even in the midst of a cyber attack.”

By integrating with Check Point´s Unified Security Architecture, the VPN-1 Edge X industrial model provides efficient, location-independent management of security at even the largest manufacturing plants. The centralised management function means that manufacturers can integrate their critical production floor equipment into Check Point´s unified security architecture.

Key features include:

– Offers highest levels of security through an unified threat management appliance that includes firewall, VPN, intrusion prevention and anti-virus.

– Designed solid state with no moving parts for durability in extreme industrial environment.

– Provides industrial enclosure with flexible DIN-rail mounting options.

– Enables flexible power input options (5V or 24V)

“The market for security solutions in the manufacturing sector will grow in the next 5 years by 15.4% annually according to IDC,” continues Nick Lowe, Regional Director for the UK, Ireland and South Africa of Check Point. “With the VPN-1 Edge X industrial model, we are the only security vendor to offer manufacturers a complete security solution from the factory floor to their most distant sales office.”

The VPN-1 Edge X industrial model Unified Threat Management appliance incorporates the same Check Point technologies used by 98% of the Fortune 500 and places it in a chassis that complies with industrial mechanical specifications for mounting, heat, and vibration. It incorporates the firewall, VPN, intrusion prevention, and anti-virus technologies to protect industrial equipment from unauthorised access and attack enabling corporations to securely control equipment using popular, readily available technologies as TCP/IP.
